 2010 PLANTING AND HARVESTING
Eastern McLean County Farms
We started our 2010 corn planting season at the Sabina farm on April 10th.  Soil temperature and moisture were ideal.  We moved our planting populations a little higher again this year, using 36-38,000 PPA.  We had fall applied anhydrous ammonia.  Then, prior to planting, we applied an additional pounds of 28%.  So far, the corn is looking excellent, and we have one of our two NCGA yield plots here that we will be taking extra care of.  We have used some of the methods of last year's NCGA plot on more of our acres this year.  Soybeans also went in the ground in excellent shape.  They are emerging now in the middle of May.  All of the Bane farm corn stalks did not get worked last fall; so we had to work them this spring and that has turned out well.  The ground was in much better shape than I expected and with the recent rains, I think they should turn out ok.
