The Southern McLean County farms got a break from the wet weather for a change. We chiseled a lot of the Empire farm on March 27th before the rain that night. On April 1, we were able to put anhydrous on at the Heyworth farm, turbo till the Downs farm, and put anhydrous on at the Downs farm. Planting went well also as we moved from the Heyworth to the Downs and finally the Empire farms. This is the first year in three years that we have been able to plant all the Empire farm without going around ponds. The Downs farm will be getting a sidedress application of nitrogen. Only half was applied prior to planting. The Heyworth farm will be getting an additional 20-30# of nitrogen. With the higher plant populations this year I felt it was necessary to add the additional nitrogen.
